Josei Toda's Declaration against Nuclear Weapons

At a gathering of 50,000 Soka Gakkai youth members, second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda issued a declaration calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons, describing them an "absolute evil" that threatened humanity's inviolable right to life. The Cold War nuclear arms race between the U.S. and the Soviets was then just beginning in earnest. Toda made his declaration only months before his death from illness. His entrustment to youth of the task of abolishing these weapons of mass destruction is regarded as one of his final testaments, and has become the cornerstone of the SGI's global movement activities for peace.
