Adolfo Pérez Esquivel is an Argentine activist, artist, writer and community organizer, best known for his tireless advocacy for human rights. In 1980, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent resistance to Argentina’s military dictatorship and his dedication to defending the rights of the oppressed. In 1974, he founded the “Service, Peace and Justice foundation” (SERPAJ), a Christian-based nonviolent organization focused on protecting human rights throughout Latin America. Esquivel was arrested and tortured in 1977 for his activism, but he remained committed to promoting justice and peace. His legacy continues to inspire efforts for social change and the protection of human dignity around the world.
