Italian Edition of A Quest for Global Peace Published
MILAN, Italy: Publisher Sperling & Kupfer has released Dialoghi sulla pace--Dalla scienza della guerra a una cultura di pace, an Italian edition of A Quest for Global Peace: Rotblat and Ikeda on War, Ethics and the Nuclear Threat, the dialogue between the late Sir Joseph Rotblat, Nobel peace laureate and emeritus president of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, and SGI President Ikeda.
In their dialogue, the two prominent thinkers discuss the ethics of war and peace, nuclear deterrence, Dr. Rotblat's career, the intersection of science and faith, and steps needed to create a world without war.
The only physicist to leave the Manhattan Project on grounds of conscience, Dr. Rotblat devoted his life to campaigning against nuclear weapons. He was among the 11 signatories of "The Russell-Einstein Manifesto," an appeal for the abolishment of nuclear weapons and peaceful solutions to international conflict. Dr. Rotblat and Mr. Ikeda first met in 1989 in Osaka, and again in 2000 in Okinawa. The two collaborated on the dialogue via correspondence and first published it as a series in the Japanese monthly literary magazine, Ushio
. This is the third language edition of the dialogue, following the Japanese (Ushio Publishing Co.) and English (I. B. Tauris) editions.
