The first meeting of States Parties of the TPNW

Within a year of the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), the first meeting of States Parties of the treaty will take place in order to set deadlines for the destruction of a State Party’s nuclear weapons and for the removal of a foreign state’s nuclear weapons. In order to enter into force, the TPNW must be ratified by at least fifty countries. As of January 26, 2020, the treaty has been signed by eighty countries and ratified by thirty-five. Supporters of the treaty recommend that the first meeting of States Parties consider setting a deadline of ten years for the destruction of all nuclear weapons.
