The World Humanitarian Summit

In 2016, then Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon convened the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey. The purpose was to reform global humanitarian aid efforts at a fundamental level by building a more inclusive and diverse system to respond to current crises in a more effective way. The summit brought together 9,000 participants representing 180 Member States, including 55 Heads of State and Government, hundreds of civil society, nongovernmental and faithbased organizations, and partners from the private sector and academia.
