SGI President Awarded 500th Honorary Citizenship

On May 6, 2007, Daisaku Ikeda received his 500th honorary citizenship from a municipality in Taiwan. On the occasion of an SGI-Taiwan Community Friendship Culture Festival at a school in Tucheng, Taipei County, Mayor Lu Jia-chen presented an honorary citizenship from Tucheng to Mr. Ikeda in recognition of his initiatives in the areas of peace, culture and education. Mayor Lu lauded SGI-Taiwan's young people participating in the festival, saying they have inspired fellow citizens with hope for a bright future. An SGI-Taiwan representative received the honor on Mr. Ikeda's behalf. With this award, to date Mr. Ikeda has been named an honorary citizen of 500 cities. On the same day, SGI-Taiwan Community Friendship Culture Festivals were held at 35 other venues.
