Zhang-Ikeda Dialogue

TOKYO, Japan: On October 29, 2010, publisher Daisanbunmei Co., Ltd. released Ningen shori no shunju--rekishi to jinsei to kyoiku o kataru (tentative title: An Epoch of Human Triumph: A Dialogue on History, Life and Education). This four-part dialogue between Dr. Zhang Kaiyuan, former president of Huazhong Normal University of China, and Daisaku Ikeda, examines the importance of Sino-Japanese relations, Eastern philosophical insights and the power of cultural exchange in building peace. The work was originally serialized in the Daisanbunmei, a monthly commentary magazine, from January to December 2008.

Born in 1926 in Wuhu City, located in China's Anhui Province, Dr. Zhang lived through the Cultural Revolution of 1966-1976 and is recognized by his peers as one of China's foremost historians. He specializes in modern history, with a particular emphasis on the Chinese Revolution of 1911. Dr. Zhang and Mr. Ikeda first met in 2005 and again in 2007, completing their dialogue through correspondence.
