China Youth University for Political Sciences Appoints SGI President Honorary Professor

On October 21, 2007, the China Youth University for Political Sciences (CYUPS) conferred its first honorary professorship upon SGI President Daisaku Ikeda in recognition of his proactive contributions to Sino-Japanese relations. The conferral ceremony took place at the Soka University auditorium in Hachioji, Japan, in conjunction with a nationwide Soka Gakkai Youth Division Leaders' Meeting. CYUPS First Vice President Ni Bangwen presented Mr. Ikeda with the certificate, expressing his hopes for CYUPS and Soka University to strengthen academic exchanges. Mr. Ikeda expressed his deep appreciation for the honor.

Prior to the conferral, the China National Acrobatic Troupe, touring Japan at the invitation of the Min-On Concert Association to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, gave a special commemorative performance.

CYUPS Department of Public Administration Vice Director Wu Qing and Foreign Affairs Office Director Zhang Qinghong accompanied CYUPS Vice President Ni. All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) Deputy Secretary-General Xi Jieying, Deputy Director Zhao Yaqiao and Jilin Province Youth Federation Vice Secretary-General Zhao Xinrui were also among the many guests in attendance.

More than half of China's national leaders are CYUPS faculty members or former students. The institute of higher learning is dedicated to fostering capable individuals through comprehensive education. Past first secretaries of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China have served as CYUPS presidents, including Chinese President Hu Jintao.
