Zhang-Ikeda Dialogue

Chinese edition of Zhang-Ikeda dialogue

HONG KONG, China: The Commercial Press has published a traditional Chinese edition of the dialogue between Dr. Zhang Kaiyuan, a distinguished modern Chinese historian, and Daisaku Ikeda. Their discourse, Ningen shori no shunju--rekishi to jinsei to kyoiku o kataru (tentative translation: An Epoch of Human Triumph: A Dialogue on History, Life and Education), examines Eastern philosophical insights, the importance of normalizing Sino-Japanese relations and the power of cultural exchange in building peace.

Dr. Zhang and Mr. Ikeda first met and engaged in dialogue in 2005 and again in 2007. They continued their discussions through written correspondence, which was later serialized in Daisanbunmei, a monthly commentary magazine, from January to December 2008. In October 2010, a Japanese hardcover edition of their discussions was compiled and published.

Dr. Zhang was born in 1926 in Wuhu City, located in China's Anhui Province. He is an expert in modern Chinese history and specializes in the study of the Chinese Revolution (1911). He also served as president of Huazhong Normal University (also known as Central China Normal University) from 1985 to 1991.
