Bolivian Senate Recognizes SGI Leader for Contributions to Harmonious Coexistence

On March 4, 2009, the Bolivian Senate presented SGI President Daisaku Ikeda with its Bandera de Oro (Golden Flag) medal in recognition of his contributions to harmonious coexistence in Bolivia and the world, through cultural, educational and social projects. Bolivian writer and lawyer Hector Solares Maemura, representing the Bolivian Senate, presented the award to Mr. Ikeda at the Tokyo Makiguchi Memorial Hall in Hachioji, Tokyo, during a monthly Soka Gakkai leaders meeting.
Individuals and groups nominated and chosen to receive this highest accolade of the Bolivian Senate are deemed to have made outstanding contributions to the flourishing and development of Bolivian society.
Representative Solares stated that the Bandera de Oro was being presented by the Bolivian Senate on behalf of the country's ordinary citizens. Mr. Ikeda said he was deeply moved and expressed his appreciation for the honor.
