Greek Edition of Discussions on Youth Released

ATHENS Greece: Kedros Publishers has released a Greek edition of Discussions on Youth, a dialogue between Daisaku Ikeda as Soka Gakkai International president and youth both in Japan and in the United States. The US English version was published by the World Tribune Press in 2010. During the discussions Mr. Ikeda draws on people, historical events and philosophical inquiry to respond to a broad range of worries that young people, regardless of their nationality or cultural experience, confront.

  • On challenging difficulties:

"Life is about scaling one mountain, then facing the next one, and the one after that. Those who persevere and finally succeed in conquering the highest mountain are victors in life. On the other hand, those who avoid such challenges and take the easy route, descending into the valleys, will end in defeat. To put it simply, we have two choices: We can either climb the mountain before us, or descend into the valley."

  • On friendship:
"The intangible tie that links the heart of one person to another is friendship. It is not about personal gain or status, nor is it about strategy or superficial interactions. It is a relationship built on the genuine sincerity of those involved.

"Friendship is the most beautiful, most powerful and most valuable treasure in life. It is your true wealth. No matter how much status people may gain or how rich they become, a life without friends is sad and lonely. It also leads to an unbalanced, self-centered existence."
