On September 19, 2008, U.S. Ambassador to Japan J. Thomas Schieffer and Deputy Chief of Mission James P. Zumwalt were warmly welcomed by Daisaku Ikeda, SGI president, at the Seikyo Press building in Shinanomachi, Tokyo. Ambassador Schieffer and Mr. Ikeda exchanged views on the prospects for peace and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region and developments in U.S.-China-Japan relations. Their congenial discussion also ranged over the topics of education, women's empowerment, the charms of Japan's Kansai area and the ambassador's family. Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada and other Soka Gakkai representatives were also present.
