Mourão-Ikeda Dialogue Released in Portuguese

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: Publisher Brasil Seikyo has released a Portuguese edition of Tenmongaku to buppo o kataru (tentative translation: Dialogue on Astronomy and Buddhism), a dialogue between Brazilian astronomer Ronaldo Rogério de Freitas Mourão and Daisaku Ikeda. In the work, the two examine the enigmas and principles governing both the universe and life, including the interactivity and interconnectedness between the macrocosm and the microcosm.

A reception marking the book launch was held at the Brazilian Institute of History and Geography (BIHG) on November 25, 2009, with dignitaries from such institutions as Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro State University) and the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy (BAP) in attendance.

Mr. Ikeda holds honorary membership in the BIHG and BAP. He first met Dr. Mourão in Japan in May 2005. Originally serialized in the monthly Daisanbunmei in its October 2006--December 2007, issues, the work was published to commemorate the International Year of Astronomy 2009.

Formerly a senior astronomer at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences in Brazil, Dr. Mourão currently serves as an official member of the BIGH and is a board member of the BAP.
