Mental Well-being

For those who are suffering, just being heard can make a huge difference. Having someone warmly listen to what one has to say is in itself encouragement to go on living.
[The Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra]

Life is inherently endowed with the marvelous capacity to convert even the negative into something positive. At the most basic level, one's life is created by one's own inner resolve, one's mind. . . . The same is true of stress. The question is whether we use stress as the wind beneath our wings to soar high into the sky or whether we allow ourselves to be blown away by it. We each have the capacity to decide that by our own mind or inner resolve.

There may be times when you come to a temporary standstill, feeling too discouraged or exhausted to continue. When that happens, just take a deep breath and set out anew once more when you feel ready.
[Guidance series, “Dialogue for the Future,” Mirai Journal, May 1, 2012]

When your heart feels as though it is constricted, look up at the sky and call out to the clouds—they will open the window of your heart. Without a window, though the world beyond may be suffused with radiant light, your heart can feel like a dark, lonely cell. So open wide the window to your heart! Climb up and leap among the clouds—let your heart soar freely, wherever it may.

You are an amazing person. The most important thing is to never think, “I’m no good,” under any circumstances. Don’t be hard on yourself—encourage yourself instead. When your heart feels weighed down, gently lift your sunken spirits. Because you are truly remarkable—and someone as remarkable as you should never treat themselves unkindly.
[Ikeda Daisaku Zenshu (The Complete Works of Daisaku Ikeda), Vol. 65]

You are your own person; you don't need to compare yourself to others. Just keep advancing, even if only by one or two steps, in a way that is true to yourself. Those who live out their lives to the fullest, unperturbed by the noisy clamor around them, are victors in life. Never give up. If you persevere in your efforts without giving up, someone will definitely support and protect you.
